The National Blood Transfusion Service is seeking the services of a confident and task-focused professional for the Blood Donor Services Manager position at its Southern Area Blood Centre located in Korle-bu, Accra.  This position is responsible for managing the blood donor recruitment, blood donor care and blood collection operations to ensure the achievement of set targets and objectives in the most efficient and cost-effective manner. The successful candidate will create a team environment and provide the leadership needed to maintain high standards of donor recruitment and retention, donor care, safety and satisfaction.

POSITION TITLE:             Blood Donor Services Manager

DEPARTMENT:                 Blood Donor Services – Southern Area Blood Centre

REPORTING TO:               Head, Southern Area Blood Centre

JOB PURPOSE:

The post holder will lead in the planning, monitoring and evaluation of donor services. She/he will also ensure that there is effective marketing of blood donor recruitment programmes, clinical management of donors and blood collection and management at the Blood Centre level.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Translation of the Blood Establishment Policy into solid plans for the Department in relation to the organization of the various processes
  • Plan and budget adequately for donor services at the Blood Centre
  • Plan and coordinate activities of blood donor recruitment for attainment of blood donor recruitment goals for the Blood Centre
  • Provide leadership technical direction and support  to blood donor recruitment, marketing and donor clinic staff at the Area Centre
  • Maintain up-to-date database for the Blood Centre’s Donor Recruitment Programme
  • Lead in the interpretation and adoption of standards and guidelines for donor recruitment, blood collection and donor care and donor clinic management in the Blood Centre
  • Design and conduct training on donor recruitment, blood collection, donor care, and clinic management for staff
  • Closely monitor and evaluate activities on donor services in the Blood Centre
  • Provide on-site supervision, performance analysis  and support to core staff  (Blood Donor Recruiters, Nurses and Phlebotomists) in the Donor Services Department of the Area Blood Centre
  • Conduct/participate in researches on donor services issues
  • Submit timely and regular reports on donor services to the Blood Centre Head

  JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

  • A minimum of bachelor’s degree in health or social sciences.
  • A postgraduate qualification in planning, public health, communications, marketing, or management is desirable.
  • A minimum of ten (10) years post qualification relevant experience, five (5) years of which must be within the Health Sector.
  • Must provide evidence of leadership and continuing professional development.

  • Availability of updated plans and budget for Donor Services in the Area Centre
  • Availability of up-to-date database on donor services in the catchment area
  • Percentage of planned programmes that are carried out
  • Percentage of planned training programmes that are carried out
  • Frequency of planned supervision carried out
  • Number of planned researches conducted
  • Frequency and timeliness of reports submitted to the Blood Centre Head
