National Best Blood Donor, 2011

Mr. Abubakari Inuwa Iddrisu Musa was the National Best Donor for the year 2011 with a total voluntary donations of 60. Mr. Abubakari was born on 20th August, 1962 in Palladium, a suburb of Accra in the central business district of the Greater Accra Region.

Mr. Abubakari is a multi-skilled married man with 11 children. He is an auto mechanic and auto electrician, specialized in general installations by profession. He is also a textile designer. He currently stays at Abossey Okai and works as a driver.

He had his first donation at the Accra Area Blood Centre, Korle Bu where he donated for his mother who needed two units of blood for a surgery. He donated one unit for her after his brother was disqualified and came back after four months to donate another unit for her. After donating his second unit of blood, Mr. Abubakari made a selfless decision to be a voluntary donor. He made his first voluntary donation in 1989 and has ever since been donating to save the lives of others  who might need them. He donated his 62nd time on 25th May, 2012 at UT Bank, Airport.

Despite him donating over sixty times, he has never received any blood transfusion before and he is always motivated to donate when he knows his blood will be used to save someone else’s life.

Mr. Abubakari advises all Ghanaians to make it a habit to donate blood because he thinks it is good for the body, it serves as a free health check, it encourages one to live a good lifestyle, it improves eating habit and it is worth doing.

“When you give blood, you’ll be doing one of the most amazing things anybody could dream of – saving a life.”
