Research_Development_IconThe Research and Development Department has oversight of Research, Development, Planning and Data Management. The mandate of the department is to excel in the creation of new knowledge and its translation into improved blood safety for Ghanaians, and more effective processes, products and blood services.

The Research and Development Department will respond to the evolving need for blood transfusion research within the National Blood Service Ghana by:

  • Facilitating the implementation of the National Research Strategy, the Research Agenda and other recommendations of the National Research Steering Committee;
  • Facilitating investigator-initiated research as well as research on targeted priority areas;
  • Facilitating the development of research capacity in under-developed areas, and training of the blood transfusion researchers;
  • Focusing on knowledge translation that facilitates the application of the results of research and their transformation into new policies, practices, procedures, products and services.
  • Establishing appropriate research collaborations with relevant research and academic institutions, as well as other stakeholders to carry out active research programmes that will help improve blood transfusion activities in the country; and
  • Facilitating the development of strategic plans and supporting the decision-making process of management through analysis of data generated within the Service, evaluation of all data and scientific reports and, preparation/providing support in preparation of reports within the service.
